Toe Nail Fungus is also know as Onchyomycosis. It is rarely seen in children. It is seen to affect most of the people by age of 70.

Causes of Toenail Fungus

Fungus infections occur when miscroscopic fungi gain entry through a small trauma in the nail, then grow and spread in the warm, moist environment inside the patient’s socks and shoes.

Toe nail fungus such as public gyms, shower stalls or swimming pools, and can be passed among family members. Athletes and people who wear tight fitting shoes or tight hosiery that cause trauma to the toes or keep the feet from drying out are at higher risk.

The condition can also spread from on toe to another, or to other parts of the body. Other risk factors include abnormal ph level of the skin, not drying off the feet thoroughly after bathing or exercise, and a compromised immune system in someone who has been exposed to a fungus.

Diabetics have an increased risk of contracting a toenail fungus because their immune system is compromised. They should have their nails cut and debrided by a doctor.

Symptoms of Toenail Fungus

Symptoms of toenail fungus can be caused by several types of fungi. They may be swelling of the nail. There may also be observed crumbling of the nail. Toenail colour may vary from brown or yellow to white in this condition.

There may be streaks or spots down the side of the nail. There may be debris seen under the nail. Nails may give a foul odour. Patient may also experience pain and discomfort under the nail and surrounding area.

There may be change in the shape of the nail. Separation of the nail from the nail bed may occur. There may be even complete loss of the nail. Fungal infections can affect the fingernails as well as the toenails, but toenail fungus is more difficult to treat because toenails grow more slowly. It occurs most often on the big or small toe but might occur on any toe.

Treatment of Toenail Fungus

A fungal infection in nail is one of the most difficult nail conditions to cure. We should keep cutting the nail back and clean the dead tissue thoroughly. There may be little nail left. When the new nail grows, let it grow. We should continue the treatment until the nail is completely regrown. Since, toenails grow so slowly the complete process will take a year or more. Lactobacilli taken internally is a beneficial bacteria needed to inhibit bacteria needed to inhibit bad bacteria and fungus.

The lack of sufficient friendly bacteria in the body can result in the growth of fungus under the around nails. The appearance of the nails can be improved by brushing with undercylenic acid.

Removal of the nail does not solve the problem of onchomycosis. When the new nail grows in, it almost always becomes reinfected. Antifungal Supplement is also used against toenail fungus. Apple cider Vinegar is food at high ting fingernail fungus.

The fastest way to get rid of fingernail is vinegar mixed with 93% hydrogen peroxide. If you have severe fungus then try one cup Clorox to four caps water and again leave for about a minute.
