Sexual Health

Sexuality is a part of every person’s life. All of our bodies have the potential to feel physical excitement and pleasure. Some people choose never to be sexually active, but on the other hand, some people explore their sexual desires in some way, at some point in their lives.

Having the freedom to choose how to express yourself sexually is an important part of a woman’s sexual health. Sexual health also means understanding the body and about how does it work. Women who understand their bodies can make better choices about the sexual activities that they enjoy.

They can also choose to become pregnant or they can choose to avoid it. Being knowledge-transmitted infections can help women protect themselves and their partners from disease. Understanding the body is an important part of the sexual health, but sexual health also involves being comfortable with yourself and also the sexual desires.

It means having healthy relationships with others. Sexual health can also mean learning to identify and leave violent or abusive relationships and learning to cope with the after effects of such relationships.

There are a number of factors that may inhibit a woman’s sexual response. Sometimes this is due to physical factors, other times a woman’s feelings or past experiences may affect her sexual responses. A woman’s current or past experiences with sexual assault or domestic violence can make it more difficult to enjoy sexual relationships.

Women’s or men’s sexual responses may be inhibited, if they doesn’t trust her partners or if they can’t communicate with their partner effectively. Even something as simple as an unresolved quarrel can inhibit a woman or men’s sexual responses. Few women experience orgasm from vaginal penetration alone.

Rubbing or otherwise less direct stimulation of the clitoris, is usually the easiest way for a woman to have an orgasm. Sometimes a woman may find her clitoris very sensitive and direct stimulation is uncomfortable.

If a woman rarely or never experiences orgasm, she may wish to explore her own responses through masturbation. She can then use this information to talk to her partner about how to make their sexual experiences more enjoyable. There can also be physical barriers to sexual response such as: -

Low hormone levels:

Hormone level may change around the time of menopause, if a woman has her ovaries removed or has other gynecological surgery, or when a woman takes birth control pills.

Lack of natural lubrication:-

Lubrication makes the genital area slippery so it is easier to slide fingers or a man’s penis into the vagina or around the genital area. If a woman produces only a little lubricant, it makes sex uncomfortable.

Reduced blood flow to the genital area: - Many of the signs of sexual arousal, including orgasm, are dependent on blood flow to the clitoris and genitals. Some medications that reduce blood pressure may inhibit a woman’s ability to orgasm, but this may also occur without drugs.
