The use of alkaline soaps tends to dry and irritate the skin. One of the most invaluable aids to a good skin is the use of face scrub. Face scrubs remove the dead cells providing a natural and healthy glow to the dead and lifeless looking complexion.

The scrubbing stimulates the skin, brings blood to the surface and smoothes and cleans the skin. There are different kinds of scrubs depending on the types of skin.

Oatmeal Scrub

Mix together one tablespoon each of finely ground orange peel and ground almonds. Take one teaspoon of it in the palm, mix it with little water and scrub the face for sometime. This scrub is slightly abrasive and very cleansing one.

Soap the face well, adding a small handful of sugar to the lather. Massage it on the skin for a couple of minutes and then rinse off with warm water. This scrub is highly beneficial for a spotty and a sluggish looking skin.

Egg Scrub

Put one and a half tablespoons of sugar with half a tablespoon of water in a pan and heat on slow flame. When it begins to caramel, remove from the heat and add a beaten egg yolk. Replace it on the low heat for minutes and mix in one teaspoon lemon juice. This scrub is recommended for slightly dry skins.

Take half cup of green gram powder, add one tablespoon of yogurt. Now add enough water to make a paste. Use it to scrub the face gently. Wash with cold water.

Add one teaspoon of cream to half teaspoon of limejuice. Apply and scrub the face well. Leave for 3-4 minutes. Wash with cold water.

Olive Oil Scrub

Mash a cup of fresh grapefruit and mix it with one-fourth granulated sugar and six teaspoons of olive oil. Hop into the shower or bathtub and gently massage over rough areas of skin with a rough washcloth. Rinse with cool water.

Orange Peel Scrub

Take two tablespoons each of oatmeal and wheat germ powders and mix these with four tablespoons of orange peel powder. Store the mix in an airtight container and use when required.

Carrot Scrub

Take a tablespoon each of yeast powder, lemon juice, carrot juice, and almond oil and mix these with one and half tablespoon of curd. Blend these well together. Apply this on the face for 15 minutes. Then wash off with lukewarm water. If the skin is very oily omit the oil and if dry add more oil to it.

Pea Scrub

Take four to six tablespoons of pea powder with one-fourth tablespoon of lemon juice and two tablespoons of rose water. Soak the pea powder in rose water and lemon juice for half an hour. Then beat it well. Apply this face scrub for 15 minutes. Then wash off with lukewarm water.

Turnip Scrub

Boil 50 Gms each of carrot and turnip and mash them well. Add 25 ml milk to these and apply on the face. First remove it by scrubbing and then wash off with lukewarm water.

Barley Scrub

Mix a teaspoon each of barley powder and milk with two teaspoons of lemon juice to form a very smooth paste. Apply this on the face, leave it for 15 minutes and then remove by scrubbing. Wash with lukewarm water.

An Almond Scrub

Beat a tablespoon of almond oil with two tablespoons of nourishing cream to make a paste. Apply this paste liberally on your face using gentle scrubbing movements. Let it dry slightly then wash off with lukewarm water giving your face a final rinse with cold water.

Banana Scrub

Beat the yolks of two eggs with a cup of almond or olive oil until thoroughly mixed. Then mash a ripe banana and mix it in the mixture of egg yolk and oil. Smear over the face and neck. Leave it for 30 minutes in which a little lemon juice has been added. Also rinse off with cold water. It is very effective in removing blemishes.
