Although many digestive health issues are not life threatening they can cause a lot of discomfort and have an impact on quality of life. If left untreated, some ailments can lead to more serious disorders, so it is better to know the early warning signs and the solutions. There are four common digestive problems, that is constipation, Gastro esophageal Reflux Disease, Hiatal hernia, IBS, etc.

Gastrointestinal Disorders

Common constipation, in addition to being uncomfortable, can be a troubling risk factor fro the hemorrhoids, diverticulosis and more serious intestinal problems. It is generally a mechanical problem of particulate matter moving through the digestive tract too slowly leading to hard stools and difficult bowel movements.

In most cases, constipation can be enhanced by simple lifestyle changes. Recommended life style changes are like exercise daily. Exercise does more that tone a person’s heart and muscles. It also tones the intestines and is essential to regular bowel movements.

Person should utilize some type of relaxation technique daily, especially biofeedback, breathing exercises or yoga. Stress can interfere with relaxation of the whole body, including the bowels. Person should try to establish a regular schedule and don’t ignore the urge to go.

Person should not use caffeine addictively. Coffee and other forms of caffeine work well as laxatives when used occasionally. When used addictively, then caffeine prevents the bowels from following their own natural rhythm. Person should not smoke as nicotine affects the bowel in the same manner caffeine.

People should drink plenty of fluids, at least 8 glasses per day. They should eat at least 40 grams of fibre a day. For temporary constipation, one should try mineral like magnesium. This mineral is essential for relaxation of smooth muscles, including the large intestine and it also can have a slight laxative effect.

Gastrointestinal Virus

Occasionally heartburn can be a problem for anyone after a large, rich meal, but when it bothers a person regularly, that is at least twice a week, and then it is considered to be symptomatic of gastro esophageal reflux disease.

This condition is a clear sign that a person is offending his/her stomach by eating too much or too often, or by choosing the wrong kinds of foods and by allowing anxiety and stress to interfere with digestion.

Gastro esophageal Reflux disease is more than just annoying and uncomfortable. Recommended life style changes are like patient should wear loose clothing. They should not eat right before bedtime.

They should also raise the head to their bed to allow gravity to work. They should do regular exercise and should eat a diet rich in fibre. They should eat small meals, because the large meals increase the upward pressure in the stomach and cause problems even in people without Gastro esophageal Reflux Disease.

Hiatal Hernia

It is defined as a protrusion of a portion of the stomach through the muscular ring at the junction of the esophagus and stomach.

Usually, this common occurrence causes no symptoms, but sometimes the lining of the protrusion becomes inflamed, thus causing heartburn, belching, distention, problems in swallowing and regurgitation. Person should try to avoid drugs that can make reflux worse by decreasing the pressure of the lower esophageal sphincter.
