Cosmetic Surgery![]() It has been known that all sorts of Cosmetic surgery carries some uncertainty and risk, including the possibility of infection, bleeding, blood clots, and adverse reactions to the anesthesia. But these risks can be reduce by good plastic surgeon and closely following his or her advice, both before after the surgery. Types of Cosmetic Surgery(a) Abdominoplasty: It is performed to flatten abdomen by removing excess fat and skin and tightening muscles of abdominal wall. This procedure generally takes 2 to 5 hours. It is done under local or general anesthesia. Side effects of this surgery are also temporary pain, swelling, soreness, numbness of abdominal skin, tiredness for several weeks or month. Person may come back to work within 2 to 4 weeks. Fading and flattening of scars take 3 months to 2 years. (b) Ear Surgery: It is used to perform set prominent ears back closer to head, or reduce the size of large ears. It is mostly done on children between the ages of 4 and 14 years. This type of surgery takes near about 2 to 3 hours. Young children are given general an aesthesia whereas adults may be given local or general an aesthesia. Side effects of this surgery may be seen like temporary throbbing, aching, swelling, redness, and numbness. Children may go back to school or adults may go to work within 5 to 7 days. There may be risk of infection of cartilage. Excessive scarring or blood clot that may need to be drained. (c) Facial Implants: This surgical procedure change the basic shape and balance of the face using carefully shaped implants to build up a receding chin, add prominence to cheek bones, or reshape the jaw line. This surgery takes near about 30 minutes to 2 hours. It may be done under local or general an aesthesia. Person usually goes to work within about 1 week. They get normal appearance within 2 to 4 weeks. Duration of results is usually permanent (d) Breast Enlargement: This surgical procedure enhances the size of breasts using inflatable implants filled with saline. Surgery takes 1 to 2 hours. It may be done with local or general an aesthesia. Side effects of this surgery are like Temporary soreness, swelling, change in nipple sensation, bruising. Breast becomes sensitive to stimulation for a few weeks. Duration of results is variable. Implants may require removal or replacement. (e) Eyelid Surgery: This procedure correct drooping upper eyelids and puffy bags bellow the eyes by removing excess fat, skin and muscle. The Eyelid surgery usually takes 1 to 3 hours. Person usually goes back to work within 7 to 10 days. But bruising and swelling take several weeks to go. Side effects of this procedure may be Temporary discomfort, tightness lids, swelling, bruising, Temporary dryness, burning, itching of eyes. Excessive tearing and sensitivity to light may be felt for first few weeks. (f) Hair Replacement Surgery:It is used to fill in balding areas with a patient’s own using a variety of techniques including scalp reduction, tissue expansion, strip grafts, scalp flaps, or clusters or punch grafts. It requires one to three hours, while some techniques may require multiple procedures over 18 months or more. Person may go back to work within 2 to 5 days. Side effects are like Temporary achy, tight scalp. There may be unnatural look in early stages.
