Combinational skin

Combination skins are very common and are one of the most frequently misunderstood and mistreated skins. This type of skin has a greasy area, while the rest is dry or normal. The forehead, nose and chin i.e. the T-zone, may be greasy and the rest dry. It requires separate treatment for each area. Both the dry and greasy areas need moisturizing.

Care for combination skin

Clean the entire face twice a day with a mild cleanser. Apply a good moisturizer on the dry areas of the face as moisturizing the skin increases the penetration of water into the skin and reduces the rate at which water evaporates from the surface of the skin. For the oily areas apply any kind of oil absorbing creams and lotions.

Skin Tonics

Elder flower water

Wash about a handful of elder flowers and mix six tablespoons of boiling water into a large jar. Leave it overnight and sieve the next morning. Mix three tablespoons of this water with three tablespoons of rose water, three tablespoons of hitch hazel and one teaspoon of boric acid. Shake all the ingredients and use the tonic daily.

Orange and lemon tonic

Put one slice of orange, half lemon and two tablespoons of castor sugar into a pan with a cup of milk. Heat the mixture to the boiling point. Allow it to cool and store in the refrigerator.

  • Gypsyrosewater

Take two handfuls of dark, scented rose petals and put them in a glass jar. Add one litre of water and 200 grams of sugar in the jar. Set aside the mixture for two hours. Shake the mixture and strain it. Store the tonic in a cool place.
