Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a complicated disorder, which is characterized by extreme fatigue that doesn’t improve with bed rest and may worsen with physical or mental activity. Among all of the illnesses, the chronic fatigue syndrome is one of the most mysterious. There is no clear cause for this disease.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Causes

The causes of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are as follow: - Mild, Chronic low blood pressure, Dysfunction in the immune system, Virus infections such as Epstein-Barr infection or human herpes virus, low blood sugar, that is hypoglycemia, Iron deficiency anaemia, history of allergies, changes in the levels of hormones produced in the hypothalamus, pituitary glands or, adrenal glands.

The cause of chronic fatigue syndrome may be an inflammation of the pathway of the nervous system as a response to an autoimmune process. Chronic fatigue syndrome may also occur when a viral illness is complicated by a dysfunctional immune system.

In many cases, however, no serious underlying infection or disease is proved to be causing chronic fatigue syndrome. Some people with chronic fatigue syndrome may have a low blood pressure disorder that triggers the fainting reflex.

Signs and Symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

This signs and symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome can last for months or years. Primary signs and symptoms include loss of memory or concentration, Sore throat, Painful and mildly enlarged lymph nodes in the neck or armpits, unexplained muscle soreness, Pain that moves from one joint to another without swelling or redness, headache, sleep disturbance, extreme exhaustion after normal exercise or exertion, etc.

Additionally, people with chronic fatigue syndrome, may also feel abdominal pain, Alcohol intolerance, Bloating, Chest pain, Chronic cough, Diarrhoea, Dizziness, Dry Eyes and mouth, Earache, Irregular heart beat, Jaw Pain, Morning Stiffness, Nausea, Nigh Sweats, Psychological problems, such as depression, irritability, anxiety disorders and panic attacks. Patient may also experience shortness of breath, Tingling sensations, weight loss, etc.

Symptoms such as dizziness and extreme skin tenderness can be relieved by clonazepam. Medications such as lorazepam and alprazolam are used to relieve symptoms of anxiety. The drugs like atenolol and midodrine may be useful for certain people with chronic fatigue syndrome.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Treatment

There is no specific treatment for chronic fatigue syndrome. Patient is advised to slow down and to avoid excessive physical and psychological stress. This may save person’s energy for essential activities at home or work
