How To Apply Lipstick

LIPSTICK is one of the easiest and quickest ways to transform your appearance. You don’t need to co-ordinate your lip colour with your nail polish or wardrobe, but you may want to take into consideration what you are wearing. It is essential to ensure that your lip colour blends with the rest of your make-up look and also complements your skin tone.

Apply Lipstick

Consider your lipstick color and finish. You’ll do well with colors that match the natural shade of your lips, opting for darker tones that complement your overall coloring. Matte lipsticks offer a muted finish complementary to workday makeup, while satin and gloss finishes offer appealing evening looks.

Apply all other makeup before putting on lipstick and lip liner.

Begin by dabbing on a very small amount of lip balm or petroleum jelly to give your lips a little moisture.

Begin applying by priming your lips with moisture and lip primer. If you are using a lip pencil, draw in your lip outline very carefully. The lip pencil should not drag at your mouth, so warm it up slightly in the palm of your hand first to soften it. Try resting your little finger on your chin for balance.

Line your lips whenever you use lipstick. Without lipstick your lips will look soft and less defined and your lipstick will appear smudged.

Check whether you are not wearing expired lipstick. It can also be due to dryness and allergy. For maintaining red lips, fresh air, vitamins and iron are required.

The next step in how to apply lipstick is to load your lipstick brush with color and brush inwards from the corners of your mouth. To give your lips the cupid ’s bow shape, lay the brush flat to paint a ‘V’ shape or curve.

Apply foundation on and around lips and then define the look of your lips using the lip liner.

If you lips are naturally full and large, don’t use the lip liner though you can soften the edge using a Q-tip and avoid glossy and shiny lip color.

If you have thin lips, use light shades to make them appear fuller. Define the lip using the neutral lip pencil from slightly beyond your natural lip line and then apply lipstick covering up lip defining line. Another trick is to apply white shadow on center of both lips over lipstick very lightly and spread it gently.

A dusting of powder or a bit of foundation beneath lipstick can maximize its staying power. Therefore you should apply a light coat of foundation on your lips. This will act as a base on your lips and also help even out the color of your lipstick.

Now it is time to outline the natural edge of your lips, which you could do with a Lip Pencil. But it should not be more than one shade darker than the Lipstick that you are planning to use.

At the time of applying the Lipstick you should relax your mouth in such a way that it opens slightly. Stretch your lips and starting at the center of top or bottom, glide color to corners.
